Overview

Despite the decreasing migration flows through the Central Mediterranean Route in the past two years, Libya is still a transit route and departure point for many migrants attempting to go to Europe. However, Libya also remains an important destination country for migrants seeking economic opportunities. This short documentary tells the stories and challenges faced by migrants who have just started working in Libya, some who have worked there for a long time and some seeking to be employed.

Sharing Some of their hopes and dreams for the future and a slice of their daily life’s, the documentary also covers opinions and advice of Libyan employers and community members and lessons learned by the migrants themselves.

Characters

Locations and challenges

The documentary was shot in three different cities, Benghazi (eastern Libya), Kufra (southeastern Libya) and Tripoli in the west of Libya and on various locations within those cities, it was challenging for our team to shot on all those areas simultaneously especially with the current conditions in Libya for various reasons including safety, transport, electricity, moving equipment’s and working with a tight schedule. our team for this project consisted of 10 members working in all 3 cities.

“I am Hassan Idris from Kufra/Libya, I was a film maker in this documentary, the character I filmed was Kamal was an interesting and a fun spirit to be around, during filming him I was especially moved by his story

we’ve had a couple of challenging situations but the most challenging part while filming this was the electricity cuts especially while filming indoors. my experience with the film was fresh and positive I got to know Kamal whom I’m still in contact with months after we wrapped filming.

working with khayal productions was huge addition to my career, I learned a lot through communicating and dealing with the different expertise present in khayal.”
